Do you need to write compelling website copy?

Copywriting is critical to any business. In today’s digital world, your website is your shopfront. Customers will be viewing it from home or on their mobile phones as they browse. Therefore, your website copy needs to be appealing and friendly.

TIP 1:  Start with the 5 W’sWho, What, When, Where and Why. You’ll be amazed at how much more you understand about your products or service having gone through this exercise. Next, pick out your key selling points: the features and benefits that matter to customers. Finally, incorporate simple numbers and percentages to make them seem more realistic.

TIP 2:  Font styles – Use a font that is easy to read. Arial is a good font to use for website copy.

TIP 3:  Emphasise your key points in bold or all CAPS as this grabs the reader’s attention like a neon sign. Whilst bold is good, bold and italic is better. Decreasing the font size and line spacing can also be effective as it draws readers attention down.

TIP 4:  Consider carefully the images you use. Images are vital because they enhance the reader experience by adding another dimension to your content. For example, add photos that compliment copy and invoke emotion, and consider using graphs or charts to explain the numbers.

TIP 5:  If you don’t ask? Well, you know the story. Customers have found your page and like what they see, a solution to their problem. When customers make a decision, they usually want to take action immediately. A CTA box (Call to Action) clarifies what to do next, so make sure these are included appropriately on each page of your website.

By following these tips and writing jargon-free copy that is easy to read, you’ll be well on your way to converting new sales in no time.
